Useful Stuff for Parents
Child Support
You can be assured that our staff are skilled at organising activities in nursery to ensure every child has access to all areas of learning. Moreover, support is given where appropriate with everyday activities such as snack and lunch times.
Parents may supply packed lunches, or meals can be freshly prepared for breakfast, lunch and morning or afternoon snacks. For instance, our healthy eating policy means we can accommodate for children with any special dietary requirement.
Comforting ‘home from home’
The nursery promotes a ‘home from home’ approach. Easy but supervised access is gained to the outdoors at all times. That peaceful environment stimulates children’s development across all areas of learning and helps build confidence and self-esteem.
Specialist parent information
Lancashire’s ‘Local Offer’ brings together information that is helpful to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their families. To be sure, Cottam Nursery School operates in line with the Local Offer.
For specific information about our Local Offer, see downloads (Local Offer: SEN Disability). Base information is also available from the LCC link Local Offer here or at the bottom of this page.
Communication
Clear communication with parents is actively encouraged to ensure your child gets the precise attention he or she needs while being with us. All children’s needs are especially catered for in a positive and extremely personalised way – both individually and within groups.
Equally, parent information is always available. For computer savvy parents, our online Tapestry system is an interactive assessment service enabling parents to monitor their child’s progress at any time, 24/7.
You will find our current downloads for parents here.
With this in mind, you are assured that the nursery has great relationships with many local Primary Schools when your child eventually needs to move on.
See the News & Events page or go to our list of Newsletter downloads for the latest news flyers.
Parents love our daily communication and Facebook additions too!

Standards
Our nursery school always has the best interests of children at its centre. Significantly, you will find that we are very ‘child-centred’ maintaining the highest of standards at all times.
OFSTED have reported that:
“Children are making excellent progress in their learning and development supported by knowledgeable and dedicated staff. Partnership with parents is exemplary and partnership working with others is developing. Children’s safety and their welfare is assured through effective implementation of policies and procedures and risk assessments. Systems to evaluate practice include the views of others and result in a continually improving and inclusive environment where individuals are respected and valued.”

Cottam Nursery School was one of the first child nurseries in the County of Lancashire to achieve the prestigious LCC’s Lancashire Quality Award in 2007.
We are proud to say that our nursery has successfully secured this accolade every year to this day. In particular, it aims to retain that highest of quality standard for future generations to come.
